Thoughts for Thursday by Emily Farmer

Amazed
I am utterly amazed everyday at how God entertwines all the areas of our lives together for His Glory. On Sunday our pastor gave us a challenge of praying / fasting about certain situations we were in or were facing. And I took that challenge. I wanted to change my attitude towards one of my sons whom I love dearly with all the mother's love a mother could have. But, I know I have an attitude problem with him and I want that to change. My discovery was that if you will stop to take a look at everyday life God is really there. He uses so many things to show HIS presence to us. He uses people, places, events and other situations in our lives to reveal his love and will or purpose for our lives. I get so excited beyond words when this happens. As I took a day to pray about changing my attitude he revealed something totally different to me. Not even what I was praying about. I was looking for how to show love and mercy to my son. But, what I got was something more. Love and mercy from God. God showed me MORE of himself, in my heart, mind and soul. My God, your God the God of the universe who loves me, you, us so much. I wasn't even seeking for this but, I got it.

As my eyes were brought to this verse in Psalms 62:5 "Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him." Now to pray my name in that verse "Find rest in God alone;Emily, your hope comes from HIM." Wow! That really gives it new meaning doesn't it. What I got from that was the answer to my healthy life style such as eating and exercising daily that I have committed this year too. That's all it took. That one verse to clear it up right then and there. If I rest in God, I don't need food. My hope comes from God not food. I just had to cry out in thanks to Him for using my attitude situation to answer my healthy living one. I have repeated that verse over and over in my head all week long since it's findings. It's amazing to me that "if you truly get in the word the word gets in you" as my pastor says.

I am still seeking God for that much needed attitude change towards my son. He is a good God and BIG God. I trust in the right timing he will reward me with a change in attitude but, it must be His timing not mine. He knows exactly what we need even when we don't. All we have to do is seek and we will find him. Matt.7:7 "Ask and it will be given, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened."

So if you have an issue that you can't come to a decision about I just encourage you to pray / fast and cry out to God for the answer. Eventually he will answer it if only you will go to Him and surrender with hope and trust in HIM. You may have to wait but, as hard as waiting is sometimes, its the best thing that could have ever happened. Waiting can literally change your life. In a good way I might add.

Psalm 62:5 (New Living Translation) Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.

Psalm 62:5-6 (The Message) God, the one and only— I'll wait as long as he says. Everything I hope for comes from him, so why not? He's solid rock under my feet,
breathing room for my soul, An impregnable castle: I'm set for life.

Psalm 62:5 (New International Reader's Version) I will find my rest in God alone. He is the One who gives me hope.

It is so amazing what He reveals to us individually in His word!!!!
I pray that you will have a changed attitude with your son, and he will be obedient to you.
