Make It Monday


Welcome to Make It Monday! My Mom has been visiting from Texas this weekend. It has been so fun & we cherish every moment since I only get to see her a few times a year! We went shopping, cooked and ate a lot (of course!), ate out, did some Fall decorating, and squeezed in all the Fall/Halloween festivals, etc. this was fun!

Today I wanted to share a couple of little things we made. I am not creative or crafty at all, and being a SAHM, simple and affordable have to be in the mix! Michael's, Stacy's, and I'm sure all your local craft stores have their Fall decor for 60-70% off now. Even though we can still display our Fall decorations till Thanksgiving, the stores are ready to bring out the Christmas decor! So, we stocked up on some sales getting fake pumpkins, beautiful Fall leaves, and an arrangement for my dining room table for Thanksgiving.

This is what we did for my kitchen table. I bought a ceramic pumpkin from TJ Maxx on sale, and got these leaf sprigs for $.20 each at Michael's.
We arranged the leaves on a little dessert plate I already own, placed the pumpkin on top, and viola! Now I have a festive, move-able(key with small kids around!) centerpiece!
We also got a cornucopia (?) basket from Michael's on sale for $5.40, this pretty Fall arrangement for $14.00 (normally $25) and put the arrangement in the cornucopia basket, placed some colorful leaves around it, and here is my dining room centerpiece...I know these aren't these most gorgeous center pieces ever, but they were easy, and affordable...if I can do it, anyone can!!;)

And last but not least, I would like to share a recipe for a Boston Cream Pie Mom made that was yum-o! Hence, the pic of the recipe here, and not the actual one we made...cuz it's gone!! ;)

Boston Cream Pie

What you need:
1 round yellow cake layer (8 or 9 inch)
1 cup cold milk
1 pkg (3.4 oz) Jell-o Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding & Pie Filling
1 1/2 Cups thawed Cool Whip whipped topping
1 square Baker's Unsweetened Baking Chocolate
1 Tbsp. Butter
3/4 C. powdered sugar
2 Tbsp. cold milk

Prepare cake as directed on box and cut into 2 layers. Beat 1 cup milk & pudding mix w/ whisk 2 minutes. Stir in whipped topping. Let stand 5 minutes.

Place 1 cake layer in cake plate, spreading pudding mixture on top. Place the other layer on top of that.

Microwave the chocolate and butter on high 1 minute. Stir until chocolate is melted. Add sugar and 2 Tbsp. milk; mix well. (Mom had to add extra powdered sugar to thicken it a bit) Spread over cake. Refrigerate 1 hour. Refrigerate leftovers.
