Serving Others
by guest blogger Emily Farmer

This weekend our pastor used a sermon illustration about a couple that got married. Instead of this couple having a reception they totaled the cost of what the reception would have cost and used that money to buy food for those in need. This was a very neat and selfless gift this couple gave, to others what could have been theirs. Would you be so willing to give up something like that?

As a mom you want to be an example for others especially your children to follow. The old saying more is caught than taught. My will be 5 year old celebrates his birthday week. He asked me if we could make cupcakes to take to his friends at school to share with them. This is his last year at home with me so his friends at school are the teachers and staff that talk to him on a regular basis. Wow! I thought. Absolutely, we can do that. Then it got me to thinking he must be taking note and noticing that serving others is very important. I am also reminded of what the Bible teaches us. ....”Jesus came to serve others not to be served.” Matt. 20:28 “If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised and receive the glory.” 1 Pet. 4:11 Whoever claims to walk in him must walk as Jesus walked.” 1 John 2:6 How will you serve someone today?
