Thoughts for Thursday - Confessions of a Mom

Share

That expression, Mommyhood is Thankless, kept ringing in my head last night. Yesterday was a bad day w/ the kids. One of those days where you feel like you are going to cry, have a nervous breakdown, lose your mind….or all 3! Do you ever sit down at the end of the day, so mentally drained & exhausted you feel like all you did all day was referee fights between kids & say “no”, and “Don’t do that” all day long? Well, I decided to make a list of almost all of the things I did say to my kids yesterday. Three pages later I read back over it & laughed & thought, no wonder I’m going crazy!!!

Here’s what all I said to my kids yesterday:

“Don’t poke me in the eye with your sword.”

“Stay out of the mud.”

“Leave the radio alone.” (The alarm did go off on it at midnight last night)

“Don’t play with the flashlight.”

“No candy for breakfast!”

“Don’t hit your sister in the head!”

“Don’t kick your brother in the back!”

“Don’t turn off the bathroom light while your sister/brother is in the bathtub!” (They both did it to each other)

“Wake up…it’s 6pm….not nap time!” (You know what that means, a child who was up late last night.)

“Don’t tear up my pillow!”

“Don’t swallow the toothpaste.”

“Spit it out.”

“Wash your hands.”

“No you can’t have poptarts for lunch.”

“ Or Waffles.”

“Give your brother his playdough back!”

“Are you lying to me?”

“Take your sister’s clothes off! I just hung up all her clean clothes & now you have them scattered all over the floor!….screaming & crying…..”Um yes, I was calling to ask about….” (I was on the phone w/ the insurance company during that fiasco)

“Just a minute.”

“In a minute.”

“Let me finish this please.”

“One more story.”

“One more puzzle then Mommy has to go do laundry.”

Ok, one more.”

No, we can’t go outside, it’s too muddy.”

“You have to eat what I cook for dinner tonight.”

“Yes, you can go to Chick-Fil-A with Daddy.”

“Stop playing with my cell phone. It’s not a toy!”

“Get off that chair!”

“Use your napkin!”

“Drink your yogurt.”

“Did you hear me??”

“Clean up your room.”

“Clean up this mess.”

“Clean up the playdough.”

Clear off the table.”

“Don’t tear that up!”

“I thought you wanted Daddy to make you a rocket ship out of that? Why did you tear it up?”

“Get out of my closet.”

“Don’t wipe your nose on your shirt.”

“Don’t wipe your nose on the furniture.”

“Get a tissue.”

“Stop throwing things at the wall.”

“What do you want to watch now?”

“No more tv for you for the rest of the day!”

“Go to your room!”

“What do you want to eat?”

“Grilled cheese, pbj, cheese quesedilla, pizza bites, chicken nuggets, fish sticks, pb crackers, & yogurt.”

“You know what we have, I just told you.”

“I’m not saying it again.”

“Stop!”

“Drink your milk.”

“I love you.”

“You didn’t lose a ticket at school today? Yes, you can have a friend over. “

“We need to do your homework.”

“Stop playing with that pen & concentrate!”

“Did you know I love you?”

“How did you get to be so sweet?”

“Let me finish eating, then I’ll play with you.”

“What was that noise?!”

“What was that?”

“You can’t have 3 cookies…only 2….(screaming & crying)…..or none!” Crying stops.

“Don’t ask me again.”

“Yes, I called her Mom and left a message. She’s not answering.”

“No she hasn’t called back.”

“No you can’t invite yourself to her house, that’s rude. “

“Because it just is.”

“Be quiet I need to make a phone call.”

“No screaming!”

“You are hurting my ears.”

Shhhh!”

“Yes, we’ll read a story tonight.”

“Stop splashing!”

“Good night.”

“Sleep good.”

“Get back in the bed.”

“Yes, Daddy will come lay down w/ you.”

“If you get up again I’m going to spank your bottom!”

“What are you doing up?”

“Well, go tell Daddy & Hayden to be quiet so you can go to sleep.”

“Good night.”

“Get in the bed!!”

A day in the life of a stay-at-home Mom! Whew! Of course, all of these things were said while I was cooking, cleaning the kitchen, sorting mail, 5 loads of laundry, making beds, picking up toys, and clothes, and shoes, doling out spankings, etc. At the end of the day, maybe I do deserve a little pat on the back for being sane (sort of) and (somewhat) mentally stable! And what do I do at the end of the day when the kids are in bed & all is quiet? Pray…a lot….cuz I’m going to need it for the next day, when all this starts over in about 9 hours!

Oh, the thankless job!

I only say about half of that now...because the little one doesn't do anything. But I can only imagine!

So, I'll say thank you for them!

"Thanks for being such an awesome mom!"

That made me laugh! Sounds like a handful.

Amen to starting it all over again in a few hours. Would you have it any other way?
It gave me a chuckle to see how many of those I had used too.

Oh my goodness! I bet you're not the only one, though. There are probably plenty of others who have a list longer than you! Haha.
