Eco-Friendly Toys

Picking toys is not easy and there is a toy website called ebeanstalk who has great baby toys, toys for 1 year olds, & up. They are dedicated to selecting good, safe learning toys. The toy they sent is called “Activity Bus” from Plan Toys, who makes eco-friendly wooden toys. I have a 6 year old daughter & 3 year old son who have both enjoyed this toy.

The Activity Bus opens up into a classroom. It includes little figurines, a blackboard/map, school chairs, & books. It is recommended for ages 3 & up.

What we like about the Activity Bus:

1. My 3 year old likes the little people w/ the "crazy" hair inside.

2. My 6 year old likes that it opens & closes.

3. I like that it is wooden, sturdy, quality made, unique, & eco-friendly.

What we didn't like about the Activity Bus:

1. It is a little difficult to open, but it wouldn't deter me from purchasing it.

Click here to check out other great toys @ Ebeanstalk & have a great weekend!

P.S. Shoo Shoos, who has offered giveaways on The Gift Closet in the past, is offering customers who buy one $24.95 or $19.95 item the option to buy up to 5 clearance items for only $7.95 each! That is well below cost price. Click here to shop.

Win It...Thursday?

That doesn't quite have the same ring to it as Win It Wednesday, does it? Well, sorry this is a day late, but this is the 1st time in almost a year of my blogging that I missed a Win It Wednesday! Yesterday was just one of those days where life came before blogging.....GASP! LOL.....I know most of you will understand that & not be upset with me. ~wink~ So, on with the show!

The winner of the Sue Berk Designs giveaway is #15 Pam. Congrats!!

This week I am giving away a $25 Gift Certificate to Bugaboo Announcements! They offer photo birth announcements, birthday & graduation invitations & much more!

Michelle is the Mom-prenuer behind Bugaboo Announcements & here is her inspiration for Bugabo Announcements:

"I started Bugaboo Announcements in 2006, about a year after my son was
born. I worked full time out of the home but desperately wanted to be
able to stay home and spend more time with him. I remembered having a
hard time finding the perfect birth announcement for my son so I decided
to start designing my own cards and thus Bugaboo Announcements was born.
The birth of a baby is one of the most important and precious moments in
life and I love that I get to be a part of that celebration. But the
best part is that I can work when my children are asleep so I can spend
all the time I want with them."

Want it? Click here to shop.

Win It! How to enter to win a $25 Gift Certificate to Bugaboo Announcements:
1.Leave a comment telling me what inspired Michelle to start Bugaboo Announcements.
2. Contest ends Tuesday August 4, 2009 @ midnight & is open to US & Canada residents.

Tuesday's Tip - Back To School Traditions

My daughter starts school next week so we're trying to do all the fun stuff we can for the next couple of weeks. Not that we haven't been partying all summer already...... ~wink~

I've been thinking about some Back To School Traditions. Last week we let the kids pick out new backpacks & lunchboxes. Are they still called lunch boxes? Anyway. My hubby takes off work the first morning of school & we all escort her in for the 1st day. And of course, pictures of her on the 1st day w/ her new backpack, etc. are usually in order as well. This year my 3 year old starts preschool for the 1st time so we'll be celebrating him too.

I have always thought it would be fun once all my kids are in school, to have a Brunch the morning school starts back for the Moms. Kind of a celebration for us Moms who are looking forward to the break...and a time for encouragement for those who are down. Course, for a lot of us, it's probably a little bit of both.

So, if you have an idea share it here in a comment! In the meantime, check these out....

Family Fun had some good ideas such as this Cake...

And this picture w/ the new teacher....Cute idea!
Click here to see more good ideas @ Precious Moms.com.

Taking a little walk down memory lane. Here is Gracie on her 1st day of Pre-K....

And last year for Kindergarten. Can you tell she was not in the mood to have her picture taken that day? LOL....
We'll miss sleeping in, but we are getting excited for a new year & a new school!

Make It Monday

I haven't done Make It Monday in a while so I thought I'd share a tasty recipe with you today! I've had lots of friends having babies lately & this recipe has been a great one to take. It's Baked Spaghetti. I usually serve w/ salad or green beans & bread. It's yumo!!

Baked Spaghetti

Reynolds Wrap® Release® Non-Stick Foil (I also use regular foil & spray the side of it that will be touching the spaghetti w/ non-stick spray. Works just as good!)

1

package (8 oz.) spaghetti, cooked and drained

2

tablespoons butter OR margarine

1

cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided

1

container (24 oz.) ricotta cheese OR cottage cheese(I use ricotta)

1

pound ground beef

1

jar (about 28 oz.) chunky garden-style pasta sauce

1

package (8 oz.) shredded Mozzarella cheese

PREHEAT oven to 400°F. Line a 13x9x2-inch baking pan with Reynolds Wrap Release Non-Stick Foil with non-stick side toward food. (Or just spray the pan w/ non-stick spray!)

COMBINE hot cooked spaghetti with butter; stir until butter melts and coats spaghetti. Add 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese; stir to coat. Arrange spaghetti in an even layer in foil-lined pan. Spread ricotta cheese over spaghetti. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese. Brown ground beef, drain; add pasta sauce and heat until bubbly. Spoon over cheeses. Top with Mozzarella cheese and remaining Parmesan cheese.

COVER with non-stick foil. Bake 30 minutes. Remove foil cover and continue baking 15 minutes or until cheese is lightly browned. Let stand 15 minutes before serving.

Enjoy!!!

If you have a Back To School tradition you'd like to share, please email me! I'm working on this post now & looking for some more great ideas!

Friday's Feature

I am so pleased to introduce you to Shannon, the Mom-preneur behind J Bird Designs. You may have seen her adorable button on my Right sidebar. Funny little story here. Shannon and & I were childhood best friends. Grew up as neighbors and played together outside all day every day. I moved to GA about 15 years ago & we lost touch. Really, after we got in Jr high we traveled in different circles, so had not talked in years. Well our Moms still live on the same street we grew up on & a couple of months ago my Mom gave her Mom my blog. Shannon & I were able to re-connect & have enjoyed catching up on each other's lives, reminiscing about racing Big Wheels, eating popsicles, & re-living those fun childhood memories. So, when I saw Shannon started a little business, I had to feature her!

Shannon makes adorable t-shirts & paintings @ affordable prices! Check them out for yourself...

The inspiration behind J Bird Designs:
"My son inspires me daily with his boundless energy, love, and ability to find joy in the simple things. I strive to capture and emulate these qualities in each JBird Designs creation. After the birth of my son, I wanted to make him some special tshirts and onesies that reflected his personality. I drew a few designs by hand, picked out some cute fabric for each one, and hand-embroidered each of them to a matching tshirt. He looks so handsome in his shirts, and gets lots of compliments. And I enjoyed making them so much, that I decided to start selling them. There was no question as to what to call my shop - I named it after my inspiration, my own little "JBird"! "

Win It Wednesday

Welcome to Win It Wednesday! The winner of the Crayon Roll from Two Little Tots is #6 Melissa....Congrats!

Today I am giving away any item you choose from Sue Berk Designs!! I have a baby blanket of hers & hand-painted cross for the nursery that I adore. Her products are high quality, adorable, & inspirational! She makes hand painted wood frames, crosses, & receiving blankets.

What inspired Sue Berk Designs:

"I had always wanted to start my own business, but I kind of "fell" into this one. I had worked in corporate jobs (product manager in high tech) for about 10 years, then I quit that to renovate houses. I did 8 houses and appeared on The Discovery Channel (Christopher Lowell Show) and in the Dallas Morning News. During the time I was renovating houses, I started making my own tiles. I had no training in ceramics, but bought a kiln and "just made tiles!" After I decided that I was done renovating houses, I didn't want to go back to the corporate world. I made some ceramics--plates, tea cups, clock, and a few crosses--and took them to some craft fairs. The crosses TOOK OFF and soon stores were asking to stock my products. From that, I started manufacturing overseas, added blankets and wood frames to the line, and now we sell to over 1000 stores and 20+websites nationwide."

Wow! Guess that was meant to be, huh? Don't ya just love her products?

Tuesday's Tip

Today I would like to share a tip from Jazmin over @ Creatively Inclined Moms. She sent me her ideas for a "Green" Baby Shower and here they are in her own words.

Invitations:
This will set the tone for everything about the shower. I would make a simple card with some recycled cardstock or use an electronic invite like evite.com. It's super easy and you save on paper!

The Shower itself:
I would do a luncheon for some of your closest friends, this is great because you actually save on your energy just by doing the shower during the day and not using lighting in the room or better yet hosting the shower outside, but I would NOT recommend this if you are in Texas because it's REALLY hot right now! (I would have to add that it would not be good in Georgia either! LOL...)
For the food, I would do some finger foods with organic ingredients. Maybe do, some tortilla wraps, fruit and some vegan cupcakes for dessert.

Decorations:
I would do a simple tablecloth with a nice runner to add so pizzaz and maybe let the fruit be the decor for the table. Ask guest not to wrap gifts. It's earth friendly and save $$$ too! Since, you can't control what your guests gift you try setting up a baby registry at babies r us, they have great green baby products or just do a recycled theme for the shower and ask your guests to bring a gently used item they have used with their babies and have them share a memory of that item with you.

Shower games:
I personally HATE shower games. I think they are corny. Instead, do an activity such as getting some small pots and flower seeds and have your guests decorate the pot with some chalkboard paint and have them write a wish for your baby on the pot and plant the flower for your baby's garden. Anyway, I'm planning one for my friend and will be doing all these things.

Thanks for sharing the tips Jazmin!!

So Bella Creations

Happy Monday! First of all I would like to announce the winner of the signed copy of Jeanne Winter's book, "Inspirational Home" is #38 purango Congrats!

Having a boy and a girl I can appreciate certain things about each sex. With a girl it's so fun to shop for them cuz there are so many pretty clothes, bows, accessories out there for them. Boys have cute stuff too, but they get to a certain age where "cute" isn't so "cute" anymore! LOL....And as far as the hair. I like it cuz I can let my daughter's hair grow & she doesn't really need a lot of hair cuts unless I want to keep it short. My son, on the other hand, has to have hair cuts about once a month. So where am I going with all this hair talk? Well, Candy over @ So Bella Creations, has sent me a a couple of bows & a hair clippie to check out and I wanted to share a little about her with you!

At So Bella Creations you will find bows, headbands, clippies, and pony o's. Here is what inspired this Mom-prenuer to start her business:

"My daughter Isabella. Who at the time was 1 1/2. We started buying hair accessories at a local boutique. The only bows I could find were solid colored bows. And all the bows were attached to alligator clips. Which we lost all the time. In all of my shopping I couldn't find any stripes or polka dots. And lets face it you can only use so many shades of solid pink bows. So I started checking out ribbon places online. I started out by making the bows just for her. Then a lot of people were asking me where I bought the bows. From their interest in the bows when Isabella would wear them is what started the business. I didn't open up a online shop until after my second daughter was born. "

My daughter sporting the pink & green polka dot bow. Love it!

What I liked about these bows & hair clippie:
1. So cute!!!
2. Quality made & she has lots of fun ribbon to choose from.
3.Reasonably priced.
4. Cute & professional packaging.

What I didn't like about So Bella Creations:
1.My daughter has fine hair so most clips don't stay in. I was quite impressed this one did! So, no negatives for me on So Bella Creations! :)

A Loss in the Blogging Community

I was shocked & stunned yesterday when I went to visit Stacey, over @ the Thrifty Chick Blog. There was a post from her sister that she had passed away suddenly on Monday from a stroke. Stacey was married with 4 children, including a 2week old baby. What a reminder that we really can be here today...and gone tomorrow. I was happy to learn that she is a Christian, and is in Heaven with our God & Savior as we speak. I am truly heartbroken for her husband, her children, that little baby that will never have known her, her extended family, etc.

I only knew Stacey through blogging, but she truly was a crafty & thrifty chick! I have featured her on The Gift Closet before, and she had my buttons on her blog as well. I have a couple of emails in my inbox from her as we speak. So, in honor of Stacey, I would like to share them with you today.

Stacey's Tutorial for a Personalized Checker gameI love her girly ideas on this post

And her last post was how to make this simple car seat tent

New Sheets

I have recently been on the lookout for new bedding as my 3 year old is getting ready to transition to a double bed. His crib converts into a toddler bed, but I will be needing that crib for the new addition, so it's time for him to make the move. We are actually giving him the bed from the guest bedroom, so he'll need a new comforter & a new set of sheets since the ones for that bed are really old! I was quite pleased to be able to review a set from BeddingSets.com.

BeddingSets.com offers a wide variety of bedding including comforters, sheets, and even some home decor. I enjoyed perusing their site & all the comforters & crib bedding they offer. What I received to review was a Simple Luxury - 400 Thread Count Striped Sheet Set with Solid Hem & I selected Taupe.
What I liked about these sheets & BeddingSets.com:
1. They arrived quickly once my order was placed.
2. I was very pleased with the communication from BeddingSet.com regarding my order.
3. They have tons of designs to choose from, lots of sports comforters, teen, adult, children, & baby bedding.
4. Wide price ranges.
5. The sheets are 100% Egyptian Cotton, deep pockets, super soft, & high quality!

What I didn't like about BeddingSets.com & the sheets:
1. As far as the sheets, I have no complaints, love them!
2. As far as the website itself, it seemed like even when I tried to narrow down my search, it still included items not in the selected price range, etc. Either way, I highly recommend checking out their site for the selection & prices.

Some of their other products:

"Inspirational Home" Giveaway

I have met so many talented women through The Gift Closet & I think that is one of my favorite things about blogging. I am always amazed at how talented people are, and that is why I love introducing them to you. One of my favs is Jeanne Winters.

This is one of my fav ideas of hers. She posted on her blog how to do this & I have had it bookmarked for a long time. Some day.....

Jeanne Winters' blog, Inspiring Ideas, is a place where she shares some of her wonderful ideas. You can see posts showing how to make Summer Souvenirs, Holiday Ideas, and see some of her wonderful products.
Two summers ago Jeanne was approached to design an inspirational gift line for Hallmark. Last fall they launched Simply Inspiring by Jeanne Winters. Jeanne says it was a wonderful opportunity and a tremendous learning experience. She had already had a working relationship with DaySpring, a subsidiary of Hallmark, and continues to design products for them. DaySpring and Jeanne share a vision to offer fresh, stylish Christian home decor and gifts. DaySpring.com just started selling framed prints of her retro paintings. They carry a number of other items she designed and have more in the works! They're a terrific Christian company and truly a leader in inspirational products!

Jeanne sent me her book, "Inspirational Home" recently to check out for myself ~giddy~ and one to give away on The Gift Closet! I have garnered some awesome ideas from her book & can't wait for you to check it out. You can purchase it, as well as some of her other awesome creations, in her etsy shop. Click here to check it out.

Jeanne's inspiration:
"I actually started with an online gift store in 2001. I had all these ideas for incorporating my faith visually - into my home, entertaining, etc. I felt a tug to encourage women to see that they can express their faith in so many unique ways to be a blessing to their family and others. To think outside the box. I wanted to do a book, but then thought some of the ideas could be products - so I decided to start with an online presence. I offered products and ideas since women either want to buy something or make something - and I wanted to reach out to both. And that's really been the passion in all my endeavors to date, like my blog and my Etsy store and the products I design - to inspire people to share their faith creatively."

An Easter Egg creations of hers...

Disaster on the Home Front

Last night our hot water heater burst & flooded half our basement.Luckily I had just put the kids to bed so my little pregnant self was able to help my hubby somewhat. He did an awesome job getting up most of the water & moving furniture & things out of the path of destruction, but our floors will have to be replaced. I've spent this morning being woke up @ 7:20am by an insurance adjuster who came out an hour later, meeting w/ people to dry out the basement, and am working on getting a new hot water heater installed as we speak. So, all that to let you know I am almost done with a great post that I started on yesterday ( thankfully) & giveaway for today. So, check back later tater! ~wink~

Savvy Girl Company

A warm welcome to a new Mom-prenuer to the Your Gift Closet page, Cydney Dixon, with Savvy Girl Company!

Her jewlery is absolutely gorgeous! It is unique & handmade & that is what I love about it!

Cydney's inspiration:
"I am Cydney Dixon and I am the owner and designer of a darling and oh, so savvy handmade jewelry company, Savvy Girl Company.I began SavvyGirl in 2002 after I made the decision to stay at home with my first daughter – Savannah (her nickname is SavvyGirl – she was the pure inspiration to beginning my company).

Creating an ALL ORIGINAL SavvyGirl piece for my clients is the best reward I can think of. I truly love to make my customers happy! For me, having something unique, different and beautiful is what it's all about. My passions are designing jewelry, finding the latest fashion trends at the best possible price and creating delectable foods (that is why we post some of our favorite recipes on Wednesdays).

At SavvyGirl, I don’t’ mass produce, it’s a creative outlet for me. My readers/clients join my “SavvyGirl Daily Fashion Finds” Mon-Friday to have the first chance to see what is new for the day. Each day, I will post between 1- 3 new pieces with some having to be repeated since they are in such hot demand.

I also like to serve my readers in other ways, I get them involved on a lot of different levels, We play, “Name that Piece” – where I post a new piece of jewelry and have my clients suggest a potential name for it. Each one of my pieces don’t leave the studio without a name which makes each piece special and unique – the names we get our so clever and amazing.

I work really hard to give all of my clients a piece that is special and an experience that is worth their time , different and beautiful. And, plus we have a lot of fun over in a little world of SavvyGirl."

Ashley Beal is the owner of Baby Bug Creations & she makes Diap & Wipe Cases, Wet Bags, Nursing Covers, tutus, & much more! She was kind enough to send me a pair of Bug Legs to review a while back & I loved them!

Ashely's inspiration for Baby Bug Creations:
"When I was pregnant with my 2nd son, I wanted to stay home with my boys but finances wouldn't allow it. I knew if I wanted to be able to be a "stay at home mom" I needed to find something to do to bring in some extra income. Thoughts for Thursday

I used to be adamant about posting first thing in the morning, but with the lazy & sometimes crazy days of summer, with a 6 & 3 year old at home & 16 weeks pregnant, I've been a little late on my postings each day. Today is a little hodge podge of thoughts for ya'.

First of all, thank you all who have replied to my request on Tuesday for your advice & feedback. If you haven't read it, please do so & let me know what you want to see more of on The Gift Closet.

Second, I wanted to share this link with you. My daughter's room was featured on Design Dazzle yesterday. Love this site! We find out on August 5th the sex of the baby & I can't wait to get started on the nursery and be able to buy stuff for this little one! I intend on garnering lots of ideas from Design Dazzle for the nursery once we get started. Here is the link: Gracie's Room.

Also, I will be reviewing some products from Bedding Sets.com in a few weeks. So, keep a look our for that. Beddingsets.com offers a wide variety of bedding for children and adults. I have been perusing their site for some comforters for my son who will be soon moving from a crib to a big boy bed.

Have a blessed day!!

A little more about Shauna in her own words:
"My name is Shauna, and I am from San Luis Obispo, California. I absolutely love and enjoy creating each unique soy candle that I pour. That is the exact reason I decided to create Shauna's Soy Blends! I pay great attention to decorating the candle so that it's pleasing to the eye as well as the senses. Hey ya'll! (Yes, I'm from the South!) I'm back from a great trip to the beach w/ my family. We decided to have one last hoorah as a family of four before this baby comes in December. So, back to reality now!

I have a great product I want to share with you today called Bath Luve. Have you heard of it? I had not & stumbled across it on the internet. Amy was sweet enough to send me one to review & it is such a unique product. Here's the scoop.

Bath Luve was created by a Mom to keep babies safe, warm, & comfy during bath time. You simply submerge the Bath Luve in water, drape it over the baby's torso to keep your infant warm & cozy during bath time.

What I liked about Bath Luve:
1. Such a unique & fun idea!
2. Super soft & cuddly.
3. 3 different ones to choose from, a frog, duck, & a fish.
4. Would make a great gift.
5. A Mom-owned company.

What I didn't like about the Bath Luve:
1. Nothing!

Come back tomorrow as I will be asking for advice & feedback from you! ~wink~
