Thoughts for Thursday

I came across this little snippet I had saved in an email a while back. I thought it was a great reminder for me today as I am battling a nasty head cold & not feeling so good today......

"...sometimes I have to remind myself that they need a happy mommy, not a grumpy mommy. They need a patient mom, not an impatient mom. They need a forgiving mom, not a mom who constantly reminds them of their mistakes. My husband needs a happy wife. My friends need a faithful friend. My church needs a willing servant."

A while back my daughter brought this giant eraser home from school that said, "For really big mistakes". I just thought it was too cute & made me think how some days, at the end of the day, I wish I had a big eraser that I could just erase some of the mistakes, or bad things, from the day. Do you ever feel like that?

Isaiah 40:18-31
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

I hope you have a blessed day & are encouraged if you are having a tough day...you're not alone!!! {{Hugs}}

Win It Wednesday

The winner of the $50 Gift Certificate from Petit Fleur Design is #48 Stephanie Shumway
Congrats!

I recently was able to view the latest DVD from IVL Media, called "This Life I Live". This DVD is focused on the Huron family, a family of 16! It tells the story of the trials they have faced & how God has been faithful in bringing them through each journey.

I asked Eunice what inspired her family to start IVL Media, and here is her story:

"Our family has been on a journey for several years now. It began when our eldest son became very interested in media. And truthfully, at first, we were not on board with his dreams and vision for his future. However; time marched on and the Lord began a work in each of our hearts. The turning point for us (his Mother and Father) was the year we took all media from the home and concentrated on other things. The passion our son had had remained and we began to see that this was indeed the direction for his life. I'm making a long story short of course.

Making the DVD....

That's when things began to get interesting though. In no time at all we had our equipment and started our first film. Still I cannot believe how everything fell in to place. What was HIS dream has now turned in to a family endeavor. And what a journey it is!

In December we released THIS LIFE I LIVE, the story of the Huron family and their 14 children and we have enjoyed several other projects together as well.

It's hard to believe what the Lord has done in such a short amount of time. It's hard to believe this road, we thought was meant for our son, has become a journey for the entire family. At every turn the Lord has provided what we needed at just the right moment. When we completed the editing and it was time to purchase the dvd's we received a call from a future client wanting to book us for their wedding. Once again....the Lord provided for our needs in giving us yet another job opportunity. As quick as a wink, the funds were available and the dvds were purchased and on their way to our home, and in the process..... opened the door to other endeavors that we enjoy doing together as a family as well.

You can find several examples of our work at our website ivlmedia.com and the official website for the film is thislifeilive.com.
Stop by and tell us what you think! It's been a joy reflecting....."
Want It? If you enter the site at thislifeilive.com and type in a coupon code, you will be able to purchase the dvd for 12.75! Here's the coupon code: TLILWBV (all caps). This price is for a limited time and you'll also be able to view trailers and sneek peeks from the film on the films site as well.

Win It!

Tuesday's Tip - Mother's Day Handmade Gift Ideas!

Mother's Day is just around the corner...May 10! I have already stocked up on some monogrammed note cards & beautiful soaps, but I also wanted to see some of your ideas and share some I came across.

I found this one on the Better Homes & Gardens Website....
flower arrangement

Wrapped-Up Vase

Dress up a plain vase with grosgrain ribbon (usually less than $1 a yard). Hot-glue one end of the ribbon at the bottom, wrap it around the vase in evenly overlapping layers, and glue the other end at the top. Add a ribbon tie and pin on a tag. After the flowers fade, the vase makes a cute pencil cup.

And I love this blog, they are so creative...Karis & Kijsa......

You could easily print, hand-write, or if you do calligraphy....a favorite quote or Bible verse, spruce it up in a gorgeous frame, or keep it simple as shown here.....

Or, if you are not in the mood to be so crafty yourself, you can purchase some great handmade items from some of these lovely Mom-prenuers....

I make Scrabble Pendants, Soy Linen & Body Spray, & Scrabble Magnets....

I love this Covered Notebook, the posy pins, & zippered pouches over at Pleated Poppy...

My friend Courtney makes these Mommy necklaces that just about all of my friends have...love them!
If you have a handmade gift idea, please email me a link to your post or site so I can feature some more awesome Mother's Day Gift Ideas!! heatherldt @ bellsouth dot net

Magnet Street Baby

Congrats to #31 MMM, the winner of the Blog Makeover from Krizzy Designs!!

I recently had the honor of reviewing some products from Magnet Street Baby. They gave away a $100 gift certificate a few weeks ago to a lucky Gift Closet reader, so you may recognize their name.

Magnet Street Baby offers birth announcements, holiday photo cards, shower invitations, baptism/christening announcements, birthday invitations, return address labels & envelope seals, and much more!

Magnet Street is a family-owned business, originally started to meet the needs of the real estate market and schools (school calendar magnets). They were innovators in using full-color, top-quality photography on magnets. In 2005, they realized that magnets were not just in demand for advertising and business purposes. Designs for wedding "save the dates", birth announcements, graduation announcements, etc. have become very popular since then.

What I like about Magnet Street Baby:
1. The quality of the linen cards/announcements I received is very nice. The colors are pretty and the pictures are clear.
2. They have a wide variety of products to choose from.
3. I had no problems with the magnets sticking to any surface & that is such a unique & lasting idea to me! Not something someone would just toss in the trash, cuz everyone uses magnets, right? The magnets even come in different shapes & sizes!

What I did not like about Magnet Street Baby:
I loved their products, but the price of the magnets might deter me. However, the linen annoucements didn't seem out of my budget. As far as the products, I had no complaints or disappointments what so ever!!!

See you Tuesday!!

Hey blogging buddies! Just wanted to let you know this week has been crazy & tomorrow my 3 yr old is having tubes in his ears & his adenoids out. So...I won't be writing a Friday's Feature for tomorrow & I'll see you guys Tuesday! Have a good weekend & say a prayer for my little guy please!! {{Hugs}}

Thoughts for Thursday

I have been truly blessed with 2 beautiful kiddos! But I need some advice. My 6 yr old is SUCH a picky eater! She won't eat veggies, only eats fried chicken nuggets or strips, (and is picky about that), won't eat eggs, cheese, pizza, cake, most cookies, you name it. So basically she exists off peanut butter, yogurt, and sometimes chicken nuggets.

A couple of weeks ago she asked me, "Do you still love me even though I only eat chicken & peanut butter?" (Heart Melts) "Of course I do!"
I guess she knows we are concerned for her, but don't know what else to do.

Here are some things I have tried to get her to eat:
1. For about 6 months we did the whole, "you eat what we eat or you don't eat at all" deal. The child just wouldn't eat.
2.I tried making her take "thank you" bites & eat at least 1 bite of everything on her plate. If she still didn't like it, she could then eat whatever she wanted. She always would cry & gag and it was a nightmare getting those few bites down.
3. The Dr said a child has to try something 10 times to develop a taste for it. She hasn't developed a taste for anything.
4. I have let her help me cook things, she still didn't want to taste it.
5. Told her we would have to take her to the Dr if she didn't start eating better. That helped a little, but not for long.

So, number one, if you have any other tips, please share.

And my 2nd question is this. We have family time @ the dinner table very night. The kids (ages 3 & 6) are expected to sit there for at least 15 minutes. We usually have good conversations, play conversation starer games, and it's pleasant. But now that my 3 yr old sees her horrible eating habits he's starting to refuse to eat things, just like her. Do I ban her from the dinner table?? Go back to making her eat what we eat & turning dinner into a nightmare? Let her just sit there & not eat? Help!

Thanks in advance for the tips ladies!!

Tuesday's Tip

The winner for Mamalicious Monday yesterday was #7 Jessica @ MacMom. Congrats!!

Have you heard of the book, "The Five Love Languages" by Gary Chapman? If you haven't ever read it before, I highly recommend it. It's all about figuring out, with the help of the book, what your spouse's love language is, then learning how to "speak" it. For example, if your love language is quality time....in other words, you love to spend time with people you care about....and your spouse isn't into spending time with anyone really...you have a problem. It's all about learning to speak each other's love languages to make life easier.

I was @ Barnes & Nobles a while back and saw that there are other books in his series. One was for kids. So, I asked my 6 yr old the questions & discovered her love language is Quality Time. That was a huge eye opener for me since I am quite the hyper housewife & have a hard time sitting still. It really made me realize I need to focus more on that for her.

So, that's my tip for Tuesday! If you want more info about the Five Love Languages check out Five Love Languages.com by clicking here.

Friday's Feature - A Giveaway from Krizzy Designs

My feature today has become one of my blogging friends & supporters. Her name is Krystyn, and she is the Mom-prenuer behind Krizzy Designs.

Krystyn is a wife & mother to 2 girls. She is a Science teacher by day and a blog & announcement designer by night. Here are some samples of her awesome work:

I have really enjoyed getting to know Krystyn through blogging & I know you would love working with her. She is such a sweetheart!I asked her what her inspiration was to start Krizzy Designs & here is what she had to say:

"What inspired me?
I found so many other blogs that look fabulous and I wanted to know how to do it. I am a take-charge, ask lots of questions type of person, so I did. I took two classes for Photoshop and taught myself HTML. I started with designing my own site and I was approached to design others. From that Krizzy Designs was born (Krizzy comes from my name, Krystyn, and the nickname of our daughter, Izzy).

My real inspiration is my kiddos. I would like to be able to stay home with them and still generate some income. At this point, I am not able to, but one day, I hope to be a SAHM with an at home business."

Thoughts for Thursday - Confessions of a Mom

That expression, Mommyhood is Thankless, kept ringing in my head last night. Yesterday was a bad day w/ the kids. One of those days where you feel like you are going to cry, have a nervous breakdown, lose your mind….or all 3! Do you ever sit down at the end of the day, so mentally drained & exhausted you feel like all you did all day was referee fights between kids & say “no”, and “Don’t do that” all day long? Well, I decided to make a list of almost all of the things I did say to my kids yesterday. Three pages later I read back over it & laughed & thought, no wonder I’m going crazy!!!

Here’s what all I said to my kids yesterday:

“Don’t poke me in the eye with your sword.”

“Stay out of the mud.”

“Leave the radio alone.” (The alarm did go off on it at midnight last night)

“Don’t play with the flashlight.”

“No candy for breakfast!”

“Don’t hit your sister in the head!”

“Don’t kick your brother in the back!”

“Don’t turn off the bathroom light while your sister/brother is in the bathtub!” (They both did it to each other)

“Wake up…it’s 6pm….not nap time!” (You know what that means, a child who was up late last night.)

“Don’t tear up my pillow!”

“Don’t swallow the toothpaste.”

“Spit it out.”

“Wash your hands.”

“No you can’t have poptarts for lunch.”

“ Or Waffles.”

“Give your brother his playdough back!”

“Are you lying to me?”

“Take your sister’s clothes off! I just hung up all her clean clothes & now you have them scattered all over the floor!….screaming & crying…..”Um yes, I was calling to ask about….” (I was on the phone w/ the insurance company during that fiasco)

“Just a minute.”

“In a minute.”

“Let me finish this please.”

“One more story.”

“One more puzzle then Mommy has to go do laundry.”

Ok, one more.”

No, we can’t go outside, it’s too muddy.”

“You have to eat what I cook for dinner tonight.”

“Yes, you can go to Chick-Fil-A with Daddy.”

“Stop playing with my cell phone. It’s not a toy!”

“Get off that chair!”

“Use your napkin!”

“Drink your yogurt.”

“Did you hear me??”

“Clean up your room.”

“Clean up this mess.”

“Clean up the playdough.”

Clear off the table.”

“Don’t tear that up!”

“I thought you wanted Daddy to make you a rocket ship out of that? Why did you tear it up?”

“Get out of my closet.”

“Don’t wipe your nose on your shirt.”

“Don’t wipe your nose on the furniture.”

“Get a tissue.”

“Stop throwing things at the wall.”

“What do you want to watch now?”

“No more tv for you for the rest of the day!”

“Go to your room!”

“What do you want to eat?”

“Grilled cheese, pbj, cheese quesedilla, pizza bites, chicken nuggets, fish sticks, pb crackers, & yogurt.”

“You know what we have, I just told you.”

“I’m not saying it again.”

“Stop!”

“Drink your milk.”

“I love you.”

“You didn’t lose a ticket at school today? Yes, you can have a friend over. “

“We need to do your homework.”

“Stop playing with that pen & concentrate!”

“Did you know I love you?”

“How did you get to be so sweet?”

“Let me finish eating, then I’ll play with you.”

“What was that noise?!”

“What was that?”

“You can’t have 3 cookies…only 2….(screaming & crying)…..or none!” Crying stops.

“Don’t ask me again.”

“Yes, I called her Mom and left a message. She’s not answering.”

“No she hasn’t called back.”

“No you can’t invite yourself to her house, that’s rude. “

“Because it just is.”

“Be quiet I need to make a phone call.”

“No screaming!”

“You are hurting my ears.”

Shhhh!”

“Yes, we’ll read a story tonight.”

“Stop splashing!”

“Good night.”

“Sleep good.”

“Get back in the bed.”

“Yes, Daddy will come lay down w/ you.”

“If you get up again I’m going to spank your bottom!”

“What are you doing up?”

“Well, go tell Daddy & Hayden to be quiet so you can go to sleep.”

“Good night.”

“Get in the bed!!”

A day in the life of a stay-at-home Mom! Whew! Of course, all of these things were said while I was cooking, cleaning the kitchen, sorting mail, 5 loads of laundry, making beds, picking up toys, and clothes, and shoes, doling out spankings, etc. At the end of the day, maybe I do deserve a little pat on the back for being sane (sort of) and (somewhat) mentally stable! And what do I do at the end of the day when the kids are in bed & all is quiet? Pray…a lot….cuz I’m going to need it for the next day, when all this starts over in about 9 hours!

Tuesday's Tip - Date Night!

The winners for Mamalicious Monday are:
#7 Holly R - Vinyl Wall Art
#5 Leslie - Pajamas!
Congrats ladies!

I know with this economy we are all trying to be better about spending & saving & managing money. Something that is a "splurge" financially, but necessary for a good healthy marriage relationship (especially with small kids running around), is a date night!

My hubby & I used to try to have 1 date night a month, but haven't been able to do that in a while. I found that by the time we pay a sitter $25ish, go out to dinner, and even a movie, we're talking about dropping over $75 on a date!

So, if you are one of those couples that needs a date night, but doesn't want to spend a lot of money on it, this post is for you!

I am going to share some good ideas my hubby & I have done, some I have read, and I am hoping you will leave a comment with your unique & affordable date night idea!

Here are a few:
1. Local Art Walk
2. Browse Antique Stores
3. Get "lost" on a trip in the country!
4. Have a date at home. Set the table w/ candles, crystal glasses, music, a nice meal & dessert! You can even do this after the kids are in bed. No talk of money, debt, or children!
5. Order takeout & play games.
6. My tip: After the kids are in bed, I like to take a hot bath, slip into my pj's, and my hubby & I watch movies in the basement...or whatever is tivoed. That is "our" time that we protect..try not to talk on the phone...play on the computer, etc. That's our "date" time each night.

My daughter took this pic of my hubby & I @ Disney World......

What is your idea of a date night?

Happy Easter!

I would like to wish all of my blogging buddies a very Happy & blessed Easter! I am so thankful that Jesus Christ chose to die on the cross for your sins, for my sins, so that we might have everlasting life with Him, if we accept Jesus as our Savior. :)

Is it my prayer that if you don't know Jesus as your Savior, that you will come to know Him. And if you are already a believer, I pray that you may grow deeper in your faith, closer in your walk with the Lord, and develop a passion & excitement for growing closer to God!

I recently read that Christianity is about a relationship, not a religion, and I couldn't agree more!

1 Peter 1:3 says, "Praise be to the God & Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has shown us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Chris from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade - kept in Heaven for you."

God Bless & Happy Easter ya'll!!

Friday's Features

First, a couple of lucky winners to announce!

The winner of the Sane Fitness Work Out set is #39 Shawn
The winner of the free Blog Design from This, That & Your Blog is #23 Sonya
Congrats to you both & thanks to the awesome companies that sponsor the giveaways & to all who enter!

Today I want to introduce you to Crystal Dalland, who is the creative mind behind Polka Tot Boutique!

She creates Canvas Wall Art, Custom Boutique Flip Flops, Room Decor, and much more! She was sweet enough to send me a Headband Hook! I got to select the colors and am excited to say I love it! I am always amazed at people who can paint, since I am not artsy in the least! I had never heard of a headband hook, and thought it was a great idea for my daughter's growing collection of headbands!

I asked Crystal what inspired her to start Polka Tot Boutique & here is what she had to say:

"After having my first child I looked everywhere for wall letters to match his room. I could not find any so I made my own. From there I started making items for friends and family. Thoughts for Thursday

A while back I asked you, my awesome Gift Closet readers ~wink~, where I could find a company that would turn my personal blog into a scrapbook. I had people suggest Blurb, Scrapbook Blogger, Heritage Maker, etc. At the time Blurb was not working with blogger, so I tried Scrapbook Blogger. I had problems finding a help page or how to contact someone with questions. The price was good, but after waiting a few days to hear back with an answer to my question, I moved on. (They did finally reply to my question days later, but I had already given up!)

During those few days, Blurb announced they were working with Blogger again! Yay! I ended up taking months to complete it cuz there so many many pics & posts on my personal blog last year. So, I just wanted to thank all of you who replied to my plea for suggestions and let you know I highly recommend Blurb! The price was great & the scrapbook was excellent! It was a birthday present for my husband & being a big picture taker & scrapbook fan, he loved it!!!

Here are a couple of pics of it:

I chose a simple & basic & the cheapest one to start with. I didn't want to spend a lot of money in case it wasn't what I had in mind. And we loved it!You can arrange the pics & wording any way you like. Lots of options!

Meet Kara, from Magnet Street Baby, whom I met through Twitter! Kara has a great blog, Notes From The Nest, and also works with Magnet Street Baby.

Magnet Street Baby offers birth announcements, holiday photo cards, shower invitations, baptism/christening announcements, birthday invitations, return address labels & envelope seals, and much more!

MagnetStreet is a family-owned business, originally started to meet the needs of the real estate market and schools (school calendar magnets). They were innovators in using full-color, top-quality photography on magnets. In 2005, they realized that magnets were not just in demand for advertising and business purposes. Designs for wedding "save the dates", birth announcements, graduation announcements, etc. have become very popular since then.
